In the Express Entry draw held on March 16, Canada invited 924 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. The invited candidates had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score of 754. As the PNP candidates in Express Entry receive 600 additional CRS score points, we can see that the minimum base points of the candidates invited in this draw was just 154. The candidates who have received the invitation may apply for permanent residence in Canada within 60 days. In the previous draw held on March 2, Canada had invited 1047 PNP candidates with a minimum CRS score of 761.
Since September 2021, Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting Provincial Nominee Program candidates. Canada has informed that candidates from other categories will be invited once the amount of backlog in processing applications for immigration is brought down. Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has also informed that the draws targeting candidates from other categories will resume in the near term. As Canada has set ambitious immigration targets for the coming years, it can be expected that more Express Entry draws inviting high number of candidates will take place in the coming days.
Canada Express Entry
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Program. To receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada through Express Entry, a candidate must first create an Express Entry profile. Each profile is assessed on the basis of various human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score. The candidates who are nominated by Provincial Nominee Programs are awarded 600 additional CRS score points that guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
