In the fourth all-program Express Entry draw of 2022 held on August 17, Canada invited 2250 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off was 525. As it was an all-program draw, candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) were eligible to receive invitations. The all-program Express Entry draws, resumed on July 6 after a gap of 18 months, have issued invitations to a total of 7500 candidates. The number of invited candidates has increased consistently by 250 in each draw and the CRS score requirement has come down steadily by eight or nine points in each draw. The CRS requirement in the latest draw is 32 points lower compared to the July 6 draw and 8 points lowers compared to the previous draw held on August 3. The all-program draws were paused in the context where travel restrictions were imposed in the wake of the pandemic and later, the application backlog increased.
Changes to Express Entry in 2023
Canada is revamping Express Entry, the most popular immigration pathway in order to make it more efficient and well suited to the changing labour market requirements. A total of 55900 new immigrants will be welcomed through Express Entry in the year 2022. By 2024, the number will be increased to 1115000. The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada is aiming to bring down application processing standards back to six months soon. In the future, Express Entry draws will target candidates on the basis of specific skills and occupations rather than based only on CRS score.
Canada Express Entry
Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. Under the system, candidates are assessed on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score. The candidates with the highest CRS score points will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the draws that are conducted regularly. The candidates who have received a provincial nomination will have 600 CRS score points added to their total CRS score. This would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
