In the thirteenth Express Entry draw of 2023, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 4800 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the invited candidates was 488. The last all-program Express Entry draw was held on April 26, in which 3500 immigration candidates with a minimum CRS score of 483 received invitations.
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class(CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP).
The previous Express Entry draw held on May 10 was a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-specific draw in which 589 candidates received invitations. It means only those candidates who have a provincial nomination were invited in the draw.
Express Entry draw: Trends in 2023
Since the beginning of the year 2023, the Express Entry draws have been following different patterns. In January, it looked like Express Entry draws went back to pre-pandemic pattern, where the draws were held in every two weeks. But this trend was changed in February, when the IRCC held four program-specific draws between February 1 and March 1. A program-specific Express Entry draw targeting Federal Skilled Worker Program candidates was also held for the first time in the history of Express Entry in the month of February. In total, three Express Entry draws were held in February and one draw each week in March. Altogether, IRCC issued more than 21000 invitations in the month of March. This is the second highest number of ITAs issued in a single month.
In April, Express Entry draws returned to the pre-pandemic pattern where draws were held in every two weeks.
Canada Express Entry
Canada Express Entry is the easiest and fastest pathway for eligible foreign skilled workers to migrate to Canada. The Express Entry candidates are evaluated on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A Comprehensive Ranking System score is awarded on the basis of various human capital factors such as age, work experience, skills, education, language proficiency etc. Those with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2023-24, the country will welcome 82000 new permanent residents through Express Entry in 2023.
