Over the past few years, India has been remaining the largest source country for immigrants to Canada. A high number of Indian students are obtaining admission to Canadian institutions of higher education through Student Direct Stream (SDS). The Stream allows Indians to speed up their application process for Canada study permit. Further, Student Direct Stream has a higher rate of approval compared to normal pathways for obtaining Canadian study permit. These students, after completing their education, can apply for Post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP). The Canadian work experience earned with PGWP help the students gain more points under Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program.
In the coming few years, Canada is planning to welcome a high number of immigrants to support the country’s post-pandemic economic recovery. In 2022, Canada will be welcoming more than 432000 immigrants and by 2024, this will be increased to 450000. The targets are likely to increase further when Canada announces the Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025 by November 1. It means more Indians are likely to get a chance to migrate to Canada in the coming years.
