The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) hired 1250 new employees by late fall with an aim to speed up the processing of immigration applications and reduce the backlog. The IRCC is undertaking some serious efforts to make the Canada immigration system more efficient in the long term. The new employees will help to decrease application wait times and allow new applications to be processed faster. This will also help the IRCC to bring the service standards for Express Entry back to six months.
Canada immigration system to be made more efficient
The efforts taken by the IRCC to process immigration applications faster have shown some significant results. Canada welcomed 4050000 new permanent residents in 2021. Between January 1 and July 31 of 2022, Canada has already welcomed 275000 new permanent residents. 349000 new work permits were issued in the same period, which included 220000 open work permits (OWPs). The number of study permits issued in 2022 was also increased by 31 percent as compared to the same period in 2021.
Earlier, Canada had formed a task force or a Committee of Cabinet ministers in order to review the service delivery, identify gaps and areas of improvement and also to make recommendations in order to ensure that Canadians receive the highest quality of service. Further, Canada will be spending $2.1 billion over five years along with $317.6 billion ongoing in new funding in Budget 2022 in order to make the immigration system more efficient. All program Express Entry draws have already resumed and a higher number of immigration candidates receive invitations in each draw.
