More than half of Canadians support retaining or increasing current Canada immigration levels

local Canadians remain warm and welcoming to immigrants

Canadians’ attitude towards immigrants continues to remain warm and welcoming, according to a new survey. The survey has found that more than half of Canadians support retaining existing Canada immigration levels or increasing the levels.
The survey conducted by the Angus Reid Institute found that 39 percent of the Canadians were of the opinion that the current Canada immigration target of 331800 for the year 2019 was right. At the same time, 13 per cent Canadians believe that this number should be increased. The percentage of Canadians who support a drop in Canada immigration levels is 40.
The results of the survey have been released at a time when Canada is gearing up for the general elections which will be held on October 21. Incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is vying for a second term, stands for careful immigration increases per year in the next three years, to 350,000 by 2021.The cornerstone of the Liberal Party’s immigration policy, if they come to power, will be introduction of a new Municipal Nominee Program and abolishing the citizenship application fee.
The survey has also revealed that confusions and significant misconceptions existed among Canadians regarding the number of immigrants Canada welcomes as well as where they come from. Two-third of Canadians believe that most of the immigrants hail from Middle East and North African countries, when in reality, they constitute only 12 percent of the total number of immigrants.
The survey conducted by Angus Reid Institute further found that Canadians overestimate the percentage of refugees accepted by Canada by double while significantly underestimating the number of economic class immigrants to the country.
According to the survey, more than 60 percent of the respondents think that the new immigrants should be able to speak either English or French, while 38 percent think that it is enough for the immigrants to learn the languages after coming to Canada.
Canada is one of the most immigrant-friendly destinations, where they get to enjoy a lot of privileges and benefits. Do you wish to make Canada your permanent home?
