The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) has launched a venture named “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future” with an aim to utilize public opinion and ideation for helping Canada create an immigration system which is strong, easy to navigate and adaptive to change. The venture also aims to ensure that Canada’s immigration policies and programs are aligned with the needs of its communities. Canada pnp finderAnnouncing the program, Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that the initiative would provide Canadians and a wide range of other stakeholders an opportunity to share their ideas and perspectives on how to build a stronger and more adaptive immigration system for Canada’s future.

Under the initiative, those who will be given a chance to provide inputs and ideas are all levels of government, businesses, academia, post-secondary institutions, settlement organizations, implicated sectors in Canada and IRCC’s clients.

As part of the initiative, in-person dialogue sessions will be conducted as well as thematic workshops and a survey for the public and IRCC’s clients, explained a press release issued by the IRCC regarding the launch of the initiative.

The initiative is expected to continue throughout the spring of 2023 and the IRCC has invited Canadians across the country to participate in the initiative.

Canada needs more immigrants

Canada looks at immigration as a solution to its labour market and demographic problem. Canada has been reeling under severe labour shortage crisis during the post-pandemic period. Further, Canada is totally depending on immigration for population growth, as the birth rate is dismally low in the country and the existing population is aging fast. So the country has been taking several steps to optimise the immigration system.

In 2022, Canada welcomed a record number of new permanent residents, more 437000 in total. Immigrants now constitute 23% of Canada total population, which is a record percentage. This has opened up promising opportunities for aspiring youngsters who want to settle in Canada. At the same time, Canada is taking efforts to make the immigration system more efficient and transparent, thus transforming immigrating to the country into an attractive option.
