The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) has recently approved the Pearson Test of English or the PTE for the Canada immigration applications. So, by late 2023, the Pearson Test of English(PTE) will become a designated language test for Canada immigration along with CELPIP and IELTS.

Language test for Canada migration
As PTE is now a designated language test for Canada migration, at present, there are a total of five language tests for economic-class immigration candidates to choose from. These are PTE, CELPIP and IELTS General Training for English and two approved language tests for French-Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF) and Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada).
In order to be eligible for economic class migration, the candidates must complete the language proficiency testing for demonstrating their ability to economically establish themselves in Canada. Strong proficiency in English or French is an indicator of economic integration in Canada.
Economic Immigration to Canada
Canada has more than 100 pathways for economic immigration to the country. Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025, Canada will be welcoming a high number of economic class immigration programs such as Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program. Other economic class programs such as Atlantic Immigration Program and Quebec Skilled Worker Program require the candidates to complete a language test designated by the IRCC.
The language proficiency level required for each immigration program is different. For example, the Federal Skilled Worker Program requires the candidates to have a CLB of at least 7 in all the four abilities, which are writing, reading, listening and speaking. At the same time, some other programs require only language proficiency level equal to CLB 4.
In certain pathways such as the Express Entry, the candidates will get more points if they have higher language scores.
