So, compared to the same period in 2020, the vacancies rose by 91%.
Another sector that saw a record-level rise in job vacancies was the construction sector and the total number of vacancies reported in the first quarter of 2022 was 81500. Manufacturing and retail trade sectors also recorded a significant increase in job vacancies.
Why Canada needs more immigrants?
These days, Canadian employers are finding it hard to hire eligible candidates for vacant positions, as Canada is facing a serious level of skill shortage. The operations of many Canadian businesses are affected by this crisis. The country is planning to overcome the crisis by increasing the level of immigration. This will give opportunities many aspiring immigrants to live and work in the country. In 2022, Canada will welcome 432000 new immigrants. In 2023, the number of immigrants would be 447055 and in 2024, it would be 451000. Canadian Minister for Immigration Sean Fraser has said that Canada is keen to attract skilled workers to the country. Canada aims to retain newcomers and thus find solutions to the economic, labour and demographic challenges being faced by the country.
Canada to welcome more economic class immigrants
In 2022, around 56 per cent of the new immigrants would be coming to the country economic class pathways such as Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Program and Temporary to Permanent Residence stream. The highest number of economic immigrants would be welcomed to the country through PNP, 83500 in total. Though the target for Express Entry is less this year, Canada would be welcoming 111500 new immigrants through Express Entry by 2024. The Family Class immigrants to come to Canada in 2022 would be 80000.
