In the first Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program(PEI PNP) draw of 2023 held on January 19, the province invited 223 immigration candidates to apply for provincial nomination. Among the total number of invitations issued, 216 went to skilled workers and the remaining 7 went to skilled workers. These invitations were issued to skilled workers under Labour Impact and Express Entry immigration streams. The PEI PNP launched an Expression of Interest system in 2018 and ever since, they have been conducting EOI draws in a monthly basis, without some interruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic period. In the year 2022, PEI issued a total of 1853 invitations. Of these, 1729 went to Labour Impacat and Express Entry candidates, which indicates the high priority that the province gives to skilled workers.
Prince Edward Island Express Entry Stream
This stream targets candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry system. Those candidates who receive nomination under this stream will have 600 Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) scores added to their total score. This would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw. The Express Entry stream of PEI PNP has two pathways. The one for candidates with a job offer and the other for those with a job offer.
Prince Edward Island Labour Impact category
This category has two pathways, Skilled Worker Stream and the Critical Worker Stream. In order to be eligible under the Skilled Worker Stream, the candidate must have a full time employment offer in an occupation classified under TEER category 0,1,2 or 3 of the National Occupational Classification. At the same time, the Critical Worker Stream targets truck drivers, customer service representatives, labourers etc. In order to be eligible under this stream a candidate must have at least six months of experience in one of the critical occupations with the business which gives the job offer.
Canada PNP is emerging to be one of the most prominent pathways for skilled workers to migrate to Canada. Canada will be welcoming around 80000 immigrants through PNP in the current year.
