Alberta Express Entry system

The Alberta Express Entry stream is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. It allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. The federal Express Entry system manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Each Express Entry candidate is awarded a CRS score out of 1200, based on eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language ability etc. The candidates who receive a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total score. For example, if the CRS score of a candidate who received invitation in one of the Alberta PNP draws mentioned above has a CRS score of 300, upon receiving a provincial nomination from Alberta, their CRS score will be 900. It effectively guarantees them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

Eligibility requirements

The Alberta Express Entry stream requires the candidates to have work experience in one of the eligible occupations of the province. In their Express Entry profile, they must have expressed their interest to move to Alberta. Previous work experience in the province or a job offer from the province will increase your chances of receiving an invitation from Alberta PNP. Canadian education is another factor that would give weightage to your candidacy. Having a close family member residing in the province, who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, will also help you get a provincial nomination from Alberta.
