The results of Alberta nomination draws held on September 18 and September 11 were recently made public, which have ignited the hopes of several aspiring immigrants to Canada.
The eligible Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores as low as 302 were extended invitations on September 11 while candidates with CRS cut-off score of 350 received invitations on September 18 under the Alberta Express Entry stream.
A unique arrangement between the federal government and provincial government allows Alberta to search for and pick eligible profiles from the federal pool of Express Entry candidates under its Provincial Nominee Program, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). The selected candidates are issued a Notification of Interest (NOI) from the AINP to enable them to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence (PR).
A total number of 478 NOIs from the AINP were issued in the last two draws. The September 11 draw alone accounted for 339 NOIs to apply for a provincial nomination.
A provincial nomination adds 600 points towards Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of each selected Express Entry profile, effectively ensuring an invitation to apply for Canada PR visa in a subsequent Express Entry invitation round.
It is understood that candidates without a job offer in Alberta are eligible to apply under this immigration stream. However, the selected profiles are known to demonstrate strong ties to Alberta province either by working in an occupation that supports the province’s economic development or by presenting substantial evidence of siblings or other relatives living in Alberta.

Alberta Express Entry Stream
A quick comparison between the lowest Alberta draw score of 300 with that of lowest all-program federal Express Entry draw scores of 438, all in 2019, shows the popularity of Alberta Express Entry Stream. This year alone, the AINP has issued a total of 4,378 nominations under this immigration stream.
Alberta’s Express Entry system is linked with Canada’s federal Express Entry system that manages the pool of candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.
Interested candidates are required to create their profile in the federal Express Entry pool, also indicating an interest in Alberta province. The profiles are given a score under the CRS that is based on age, education, skilled work experience, proficiency in English or French and a few other factors. Regular draws conducted by the provincial authorities select the required number of candidates based on the threshold CRS score.
The minimum CRS score and the number of invitations issued by Alberta province in the second half of 2019 are tabulated as below:
