Ontario issued nominations to 6850 applicants for Canada PR in 2018, according to a report by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program(OINP). Around half of the total nominations issued by Ontario in the year went to Express Entry candidates, says the report. The report further states that the 6,850 nominations allocated to Ontario in 2018 would translate into 13,571 new immigrants to the province along with accompanying spouses and dependents.
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) allows the province to nominate a set number of economic immigration candidates for Canada PR every year. OINP is the largest component of the federal Provincial Nominee Program. Canada PNP works with the provinces and territories participating in the program to distribute the economic benefits of immigration more evenly across Canada.
Canada PR nomination for Express Entry candidates
Nearly 50 per cent of the total nominations issued by the OINP in 2018 went to candidates who have their profile in the federal Express Entry pool. OINP has three Express Entry-aligned immigration streams– Human Capital Priorities, French-Speaking Skilled Worker and Skilled Trades streams. Under these streams, Ontario searches for candidates capable of meeting the demands of the Ontario labour market and nominates them for Canada PR. The candidates who are nominated by OINP for Canada PR will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points.
Out of the 6,850 nominations issued by Ontario in 2018, a total of 2,190 nominations for Canada PR were issued through the Human Capital Priorities Stream. Another 648 nominations were issued through the Skilled Trades Stream and 387 through the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream.
According to the OINP report, a quarter of all the nominations in 2018 went to candidates with work experience or job offer in technology-related occupations. While Ontario’s provincial nominees constituted candidates from 147 countries, the most number of candidates to receive nomination was from India. A total of 2651 nominations out of the total 6850 nominations or 39 per cent of the total nominations issued went to Indians. Next came the Chinese applicants who received a total of 1424 nominations. The percentage of nominees who had a job offer in Ontario was only 36 per cent.
