Prince Edward Island has invited 199 economic immigration candidates, including Express Entry candidates, to apply for provincial nomination in the latest draw held on February 21. The number of candidates invited in the latest draw is more than double the number of candidates invited in the previous draw held in January, in which 91 invitations had been issued.
Among the total invitations issued, 170 invitations were issued to candidates belonging to the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories of Prince Edward Island (PEI). However, Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) has not revealed the exact number of invitations issued to Express Entry candidates. Yet another 29 candidates were invited through the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream.
Prince Edward Island PNP Express Entry category
The Express Entry category of the Prince Edward Island PNP is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. As the first step of obtaining provincial nomination from Prince Edward Island, an Express Entry candidate must create an Expression of Interest (EoI) profile with the Prince Edward Island PNP. Information regarding various eligibility factors such as education, work experience and proficiency in English or French etc. must be included in the profile. Based on these factors, each of these profiles is awarded a score and the highest ranking candidates obtain an invitation to apply for provincial nomination in the subsequent monthly draws. The candidates who successfully obtain provincial nomination will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points, which will guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the next Express Entry draw.
Labour Impact category
The Labour Impact Category of Prince Edward Island PNP is not aligned to the federal Express Entry system and it has three EOI-based immigration streams–Skilled Workers (in PEI and outside Canada), International Graduates and Critical Workers. In order to be considered for provincial nomination under this category, candidates must be working in Prince Edward Island and have a full-time, long-term job offer from an employer in the province, among other criteria.
Work Permit business stream
This stream is for eligible foreign entrepreneurs with business ownership or eligible management experience planning to invest in and run a business in Prince Edward Island. The Work Permit stream operates on an EoI basis. The minimum score required for candidates of the work Permit business stream candidates in the February 21 draw was 117.
