2,000 additional spaces for temporary workers under Provincial Nominee Program

Canada PR applications

The Government of Canada has announced that an additional 2000 temporary foreign workers could be granted permanent residence in Canada this year through Canada Provincial Nominee Program. According to a news release issued by the Government of Canada, the additional spaces target existing long-term Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada with intermediate skills classified as National Occupational Code “C” who have integrated into Canadian society.
“Temporary foreign workers fill long-term labour market needs and contribute to the growth of our economy. We recognize the need to provide opportunities for them to transition to permanent residence — and these additional spaces under the PNP will do just that,” said Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussen in a statement. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) expects that the additional spaces will help address “worker vulnerability.”

Canada Provincial Nominee Program (Canada PNP) allows provinces and territories in the country to nominate immigrants based on their labour market needs and the immigrants’ intention. Canada PNP also helps provinces and territories to attract more immigrants to their respective regions as well.
Provinces and territories participating in Canada PNP are:

  • Alberta
  • Manitoba
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Saskatchewan
  • British Columbia
  • Nova Scotia
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Yukon
  • Northwest Territories

Quebec Migration: Immigration to Quebec is conducted separate from the selection criteria of the Government of Quebec. Those who want to become economic permanent residents of Canada and reside in Quebec must go through the separate Quebec immigration system.
As per the multi-year immigration plan of Canada, the country is planning to admit 61000 new immigrants through Canada PNP. It means an increase of 6000 admissions compared to the year 2018. The allotment of more spaces is part of this increase. Earlier, on March 4, IRCC had opened the Interim Pathway for Caregivers, a temporary permanent residence pathway for eligible in-home temporary foreign worker caregivers who came to Canada after November 30, 2014.
Canada PNP is a faster pathway for Canada migration that opens vast opportunities for potential immigrants. Contact us for more information and guidance
