Family Sponsorship Visa

Permanent Resident holders in Canada can sponsor their spouse, partner, or child with a sponsorship visa, also called the Dependent visa. To sponsor a dependent, you must provide proof of financial support, shelter, clothing, medical support, and basic needs to your dependent.

• If you’re sponsoring your spouse/ common-law partner/ conjugal partner, the length of the undertaking is 3 years
• In the case of your dependent child over the age of 22 years, the length of the undertaking is 3 years from the day your child becomes a permanent resident.
• For your dependent child below the age of 22 years, the length of undertaking must be 10 years from the day.

Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP)

One of the efficient pathways to take your spouse to Canada is the Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP). Your spouse can accompany you to Canada with an open work permit if

• you’re an international student or about to begin your education in Canada
• you’re a permanent resident of Canada
• you are working in Canada with a Closed Work Permit

You can include your spouse in the application as you’re about to work or study in Canada. You could also apply for an Open Work Permit for your spouse from outside Canada.

Canada Super Visa

Once you obtain Permanent Residence in Canada, you can bring your Parents and Grandparents through a Super Visa.
Canada super visa is a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) that allows parents and grandparents of Permanent Resident holders to visit their family and stay for up to 5 consecutive years at once.

This multiple-entry visa allows parents and grandparents to visit their family multiple times in 10 years. Each stay in Canada can be up to a maximum of 5 years.

You can apply for a Super Visa throughout the year, and no lottery system. Which means you have high certainty to obtain a super visa.

Who is eligible for a Super Visa?

• Only parents and grandparents of the Permanent Resident holder must apply
• A spouse or common-law partner of the applicant can be included in the application
• PR holder must provide proof of financial support for the applicants for their length of stay
• Must have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company

Parents and Grandparents program (PGP)

The parents and grandparents program (PGP) allows Permanent Resident holders to sponsor their parents or grandparents to stay in Canada. Through the PGP, applicants can obtain Permanent Residence and eventually apply for Canadian citizenship.

Unlike Super Visa which is a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), the Parents and Grandparents program is a permanent visa.
PR holders must sign an undertaking through which they become responsible for providing financial support, clothing, shelter, and more for 20 years.

Who is eligible for a Parents and Grandparents program?

• Parents and grandparents of the Permanent Resident holder
• PR holder must provide proof of financial support for the applicants for their length of stay
• Sponsors must establish proofs that they exceed the minimum necessary income level (MNI) and proof of income
• Must have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company

What’s the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI)?

The Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) or the Low-Income Cut-off (LICO) is the income requirement the PR holder must provide. They must provide income proof to support the parent or grandparent throughout their stay.
