The Express Entry system that manages three popular Canada immigration pathways-the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-uses Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to select eligible candidates. The candidates who score higher CRS points are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. So, to score as many CRS points as possible is the best way to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry.
The maximum CRS points available for a candidate is 1200. A candidate can get 600 CRS points a nomination from a Canadian province. Up to 500 points are awarded on human capital factors and 100 points for skills transferability.
How to improve your CRS score?
Even if you have already entered the Express Entry pool, there are a number of ways through which you can improve your CRS score. The changes you can make may be small, like improving your IELTS scores. But these changes can make a significant effect on your ranking in the Express Entry pool. Here are five important tips to improve your CRS scores.
Education
Earning one or two certificates, diplomas or degrees more will earn you a few extra CRS points under the education category. An additional level of education will also help you earn extra points. It means, if you are a graduate, earn a postgraduate degree or diploma that will convert into more CRS points.
Another way to earn more CRS points is by pursuing a course in Canada before submitting your profile to Express Entry.
Language
With the language factor, a candidate can earn up to 136 points. If the points that you have earned for language proficiency are low, you can take a re-test and improve your scores. If your points have increased, that will reflect in your CRS scores. Canada has two official language-English and French. If possible, take a French class and learn the language to earn more (15) CRS points.
Work
If your work experience is less than three years, it is better to keep working to earn maximum CRS points under the work factor. Obtaining a valid job offer from a Canadian employer can help you earn more CRS points (200 points if it is an O level job and 50 points if the occupation comes under A or B level). Though it is difficult to obtain a job offer from Canada, you can try your luck with online resources, while you wait to receive your ITA.
Spouse
The level of education, language proficiency and work experience of your spouse may help you earn some extra CRS points. The first language scores of your spouse can add a maximum of 20 CRS points. You can earn another 10 points by getting done the ECA of your spouse’s educational qualification.
Provincial Nominee Programs
If you have the nomination certificate of a province, it can earn you 600 additional CRS points. So it is better to try for Canada migration through one of the PNP streams aligned to Express Entry. But you have to apply right and when a particular PNP category opens to accept applications.
