The Atlantic province of Prince Edward Island has issued a total of 147 invitations to apply for provincial nomination to candidates belonging to its Express Entry and Labor Impact categories. However, Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) has not revealed a breakdown of how many candidates were invited under each category.
Another 29 invitations were also issued to candidates of the Work Permit Stream under the Business Impact Category of PEI PNP.
Though there was no minimum required scores for Express Entry and Labour Impact categories, Business Impact category candidates were required to have minimum 130 points under the category’s points grid.
PEI PNP Express Entry category
The Express Entry category of PEI PNP is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. The interested candidates may submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) through the EoI system of PEI PNP. The EoIs are assessed on the basis of six selection factors–age, language, education, work experience, employment, and adaptability. Based on this, a score out of 100 points is awarded to each candidate. The highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination in the subsequent draws.
The candidates who obtain provincial nomination receive 600 additional CRS points, which means, most probably they would be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draws.
Express Entry candidates without a job offer may also be invited for provincial nomination. There have also been cases when the PEI PNP directly contacted Express Entry candidates with skills required in the province’s labor market, but have not submitted an EoI with PEI PNP.
Labor impact category
The Labor Impact category also operates on the basis on an EoI system. It has three streams–Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate. In order to apply under this category, candidates must either be working for a PEI employer or must have a job offer from a PEI employer.
So far, a combined total of 1,175 invitations have been issued under both Express Entry and Labor Impact categories this year.
