In the Express Entry draw held on November 5, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited a total of 4500 candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 478. This is the third time Canada is inviting 4500 candidates in a single Express Entry draw, the highest number of invitations issued at a time this year.
As per the newly announced Immigration Levels Plan of Canada, the country will be welcoming more than 400,000 new immigrants every year between 2021 and 2023. Of the total number of new immigrants to be admitted in a year, more than 100,000 will be admitted through the Federal High Skilled category immigration programs managed under the Express Entry.
As in the previous draws, the IRCC applied a tie-break rule in the latest draw too, and the time-stamp given was October 26, 2020 at 22:44:19 UTC. It means those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time were prioritized in the draw.
Another specialty of the latest Express Entry draw was that as per a new change in the CRS points system, French-speaking candidates received 25 points for their language skills, up from 15 points, and bilingual candidates received 50 points, up from 30 points.
With the latest draw, the total number of ITAs issued so far this year has reached 87350. It indicates that the Express Entry is about to set another record this year in terms of the number of ITAs issued.
Canada Express Entry system
Canada Express Entry system manages applications for immigration under three major federal economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class, as well as some Provincial Nominee Programs. Each Express Entry candidate is awarded a CRS score based on various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language ability etc. and the highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. This year, the CRS cut-off score has been hovering around 470 in most of the Express Entry draws. The lowest CRS cut-off score this year was 415, in the draw that exclusively targeted Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates. Those candidates nominated by the PNPs receive 600 additional CRS score points. That guarantees them to an invitation to apply for provincial nomination in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
