Even as Canada is all set to reopen its borders, a Provincial Nominee Program(PNP)-specific draw was held on July 21, inviting 462 candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required to receive an invitation in the draw was 734 points. This CRS requirement is significantly low compared to the previous PNP-specific draw held on July 7, in which the CRS cut-off score was 760. A tie-breaking rule was applied in the latest draw, with the time stamp given being April 11, 2021 at 10:56:32 UTC.
Canada relaxing border restrictions
Canada government has announced its plan to re-open the borders for fully vaccinated non-essential travellers by September 7. Last month, it was announced that immigration candidates who have a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence(COPR) will be exempted from travel restrictions. Canada also eliminated quarantine measures for eligible fully vaccinated travellers to the country on July 5.
Ever since the start of this year, Canada has been conducting Canadian Experience Class(CEC)-specific Express Entry draws and PNP-specific Express Entry draws alternately, prioritizing candidates who are already residing in the country. With Canada relaxing the border restrictions in a phased manner, it is expected that the IRCC would soon conduct an all-program Express Entry draw in which Federal Skilled Worker Program candidates and Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates will also receive invitations.
The Express Entry candidates who have received a provincial nomination will have 600 additional points added to their total CRS score. It means the basic CRS score of a person with a total CRS score of 734 would be 134.
According to the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada is planning to welcome 401000 new immigrants this year. Almost a quarter of these immigrants will be admitted through Express Entry. So far this year, Express Entry invitations have been issued to a total of 94304 candidates.
