International students who do 100% of their studies online from outside Canada are still eligible to apply for Post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP) once they complete the study program. Canada has extended the period where international students are allowed to pursue their studies online from December 31, 2021 till August 31, 2022. The rule was originally brought into effect in 2020, in the wake of the pandemic that caused travel restrictions.
According to the website, this is applicable even for those students who complete two study programs. However, the programs must have started between March 2020 and the summer of 2022. Another requirement for the rule to be applicable is that the student must have enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and meet the other requirements for obtaining a PGWP.
The duration of your study period is a deciding factor in your PGWP eligibility. If your study program is longer than eight months and less than two years, the validity of the PGWP will match with this duration. If your study period is more than two years, you can become eligible to work in Canada for as long as three years under a PGWP work permit. With a PGWP, you can also work anywhere in Canada. As PGWP is an open work permit, the holder can work for any employer and take up any occupation. However, this work permit cannot be renewed or extended.

Statistics shows that six out of 10 international students who work in Canada during or after their studies become permanent residents in the country. Canadian work experience can give you weightage while applying for Canada PR through Express Entry, Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) or Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
