Ontario conducted a Provincial Nominee Program draw on February 24 that invited 818 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. The invited candidates are those eligible under the Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream. The candidates were required to have an active Express Entry profile and a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 359. The candidates were selected from those who had created their Express Entry profiles between February 24,2021 and February 24, 2022.
As in the previous Ontario PNP draw for Express Entry candidates, this draw also did not have a CRS cap. Which means the draw did not set a maximum CRS score to receive an invitation. Earlier, Ontario used to set a maximum CRS score range and those above this score were not selected. Because of this reason, many candidates even tried to lower their CRS scores, in order to receive an invitation from Ontario. 600 is the maximum CRS score a candidate can obtain without a provincial nomination.
Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream
This Stream allows Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class candidates to apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario. To be eligible under the stream, the candidates must be living in Ontario with a valid work permit. They need to have a minimum one-year work experience or equivalent part-time experience. This work experience must be in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC). However, no job offer is required to apply under this stream. But it is mandatory for the candidates to meet all federal and provincial requirements.
The Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination will receive 600 additional CRS score points. This would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw. Since September 2021, the Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting PNP candidates. So, creating an Express Entry profile, even if you plan to apply through another pathway for Canada immigration, will increase your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for Canada PR.
