The Provincial Nominee Programs of Canada issued more than 1400 invitation in the month of May. The PNPs allow the provinces and territories of Canada to select candidates who are able to meet their labour market requirements. The Provincial Nominee Program was introduced by Canada in 1998 with an aim to spread the benefits of immigration evenly among the provinces.
Today, a major portion of economic immigration to Canada happens through PNPs. Further, provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba and Saskatchewan depend on their respective PNPs to meet their demographic and labour market needs. By 2024, Canada would be admitting almost 93000 new immigrants through PNP every year.
Almost all PNPs have at least one stream or category aligned to the Federal Express Entry. The candidates who receive provincial nomination through these streams and categories will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points added to their total CRS score. This guarantees them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw. In May, two PNP-specific Express Entry draws and invited a total 1134 candidates. Since September 2021, Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting PNP candidates. However, Canada has made it clear that all-program draws would be resumed soon.
Alberta
On May 19, an Alberta PNP Express Entry draw was held and 100 Express Entry candidates received invitations. They had a minimum CRS score of 382.
