Business groups in Canada are urging the government to speed up the immigration processing for Canada migration, as they are facing difficulty in hiring eligible skilled workers. The Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC) said in a report that the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) must take efforts to improve the processing times for applications.
It pointed out that employers in the country who recruit highly skilled international talent are urging the government to launch an immigration program that would provide Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exemptions and fast-track the applications of candidates in high-demand occupations. The report even says that the employers in Canada are ready to pay additional fee to expedite the processing of applications.
CERC also wants Canadian immigration officials to hire and train more staff and implement advanced technology for modernising the processing system. The organization has also urged the IRCC to implement a Trusted Employer Program, which would allow employers to hire skilled international talent more easily.
But it has also to be noted that IRCC is moving towards a more integrated, modernized and centralised working environment for speeding up the application processing globally. Canadian government is planning to spend $2.1 billion over five years to support the processing and settlement of new permanent residents. In Budget 2022, Canada government has allocated another $317.6 million for the purpose. IRCC has already taken several efforts to reduce the processing times, which include hiring new staff, digitizing the processing and implementing advanced technology.
Many employers in Canada are of the opinion that foreign talent is extremely important for them to grow their business globally. Three of the most sought-after skills in Canada are executive management, skilled workers and project managers.
CERC pointed out that immigration was vitally important for rebuilding the Canadian economy. Various industries in Canada are facing so much difficulty in filling the vacancies. Hiring foreign workers is the only solution they see to end this problem. Besides, the low birth rate and an aging population are causing a demographic crisis for the country and faster immigration processing is seen as a solution for this too.
