Canada welcomes double number of PGP immigrants in 2022, compared to last year

Canada welcomed 13180 new permanent residents through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in the first eight months of 2022, shows data. The number is 233.5 per cent higher compared to the same period last year. Data shows that PGP’s performance in the current year is even stronger than 2019, the year before the onset of the pandemic. Compared to 2019, the number of new permanent residents arrived through PGP is higher by 2640 parents and grandparents or 16.3 per cent.
As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2022-2024, the plan is to bring 25000 parents and grandparents through PGP this year. For the next year, the target for Parents and Grandparents Program is 28500 new permanent residents. Based on the current trend, it can be predicted that PGP will surpass its target for 2022 as well as for 2023.

In the current year, on an average, Canada welcomes 2353 new permanent residents every month. If this trend continues, Canada will be welcoming 28237 parents and grandparents with permanent resident status by the end of this year. This is 132.8 per cent higher compared to 11740 parents and grandparents welcomed through the program last year.

This is double the number of immigrants who came to Canada through Parents and Grandparents Program(PGP) compared to the previous year.
