Canada government is all set to introduce certain new changes to the Express Entry system in order to make it more aligned with the economic goals of the country. In the future, Express Entry draws will target candidates who have certain language skills and healthcare qualifications.
These changes are currently being discussed in the Canadian parliament. The changes were proposed to the Standing Committee on Immigration and Citizenship by Philip Somogyvari, the Director General of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The Committee, comprising elected officials who study matters related to Canadian immigration.
Eligibility for Express Entry
Hinting about the proposed changes, Somogyvari said determining the eligibility of a candidate for a particular Express Entry category may be based on their work experience, educational background and language skills. For example, if Canada needs more workers to promote the growth of the technology sector, a category will be created where the candidates will be selected on the basis of their tech-related work experience.
Similarly, if the government wants to target French-speaking candidates, more points would be provided to those who have proficiency in French language.
When the new changes would come into effect, the immigration minister would be the one authorised to invite candidates on the basis of factors such as work experience, education and language skills. However, the government would take such decisions only after consulting with various stakeholders such as employers as well as provincial and territorial governments.
Express Entry 2022
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three economic immigration programs of Canada, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). If someone wants to migrate to Canada through Express Entry, they must first create an Express Entry profile. They will be awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and the highest scoring candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Those who have provincial nomination will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System score points, which will make them eligible to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
