In the first Express Entry draw to take place in the year 2019, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 3,900 candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required in this draw held on January 10th was 449 points.
As in the previous draws, tie-break rule was applied in the latest draw as well, the date and time being January 2, 2019 at 11:40:53 UTC. It means all candidates who submitted their Express Entry profiles before this time and date, with a minimum CRS score of 449, were invited to apply.
As the time gap between two of the latest consecutive Express Entry draws was longer than usual, the minimum CRS score requirement went up. A longer interval gives time for more candidates to submit their profiles or improve their CRS scores. The minimum CRS score requirement for the draw held on December 19 was 439, ten points lower than the requirement for the latest draw. IRCC has been retaining the number of invitations issued at 3900 consecutively for the past eight draws ever since October 3, 2018.
As per the updated Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2019-2021, around 256,000 candidates will be accepted in the next three years through Express Entry. Another 200,000 new permanent residents will be accepted through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) by 2021. Express Entry candidates who receive Provincial Nomination will be invited to apply for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw, as the additional 600 CRS score points they obtain with the nomination ensure that their total CRS score is much above the minimum requirement.
In 2019, Canada is planning to admit 81,400 new permanent residents through the Federal High Skilled immigration category. Majority of the Federal High Skilled immigration category applications will be processed through the Express Entry system.
