Immigration to Canada increased significantly in the first five months of 2022, according to data revealed by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Compared to same time period last year, the number of new permanent residents in the country increased by 71.8 per cent. In the first five months of this year, Canada welcomed a total of 187490 new permanent residents. In the first five months of 2021, the increase in Canada immigration has touched 78370.

It may even bust Canada’s immigration target for 2023, which is 447055 new permanent residents, as per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2022 to 2024. As per the Plan, Canada will be welcoming 451000 new permanent residents in 2024.

In the first five months of this year, almost 15.9% of the new permanent residents to Canada were admitted through Provincial Nominee Program pathways. A total of 29735 new permanent residents came to Canada through provincial and territorial nominee programs.

They have also urged the government to ensure the timely and efficient processing of applications for immigration from the provincial nominees.
