No Upfront Medical Examinations for Express Entry Applicants From October 01

Upfront Medical Exams

Highlights

1. New Express Entry applicants are no longer required to submit an upfront medical exam.
2. IRCC will send instructions to applicants on when and how to get a medical exam after their complete application for permanent residence has been submitted.
3. Applicants must still get a medical exam before they can immigrate to Canada.
4. The IRCC-authorized panel of physicians will certify medical fitness.

As of October 1, 2023, Express Entry applicants need not submit an upfront medical exam. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced this change in June 2023.

Instead, IRCC will send instructions to applicants on when and how to get a medical exam after their complete application for permanent residence has been submitted. This means that applicants can wait until they are further along in the immigration process before having to undergo a medical exam.

IRCC expects to streamline the Express Entry process and reduce the burden on applicants. This change will make immigration to Canada easier.

Who Requires To Provide A Medical Exam Confirmation Upfront?

Upfront medical confirmation is required only for Express Entry applicants who applied before October 1, 2023. You must provide a medical exam confirmation that is valid at the time of your application. IRCC’s authorized panel of physicians will certify your medical fitness to immigrate to Canada.

This means that all other applicants, including those applying under the Family Class, Skilled Worker Class, and Canadian Experience Class, need not submit an upfront medical exams.

Ask our expert immigration consultants whether you are exempt from upfront medical exams.

IRCC Instructions For New Express Entry Applicants

If you are a new Express Entry applicant who never completed a medical exam, IRCC instructs you to upload a blank document in the upload field of the Express Entry Profile Builder when submitting your application.

Further, IRCC will send you instructions after you have submitted your complete application for permanent residence. These instructions will tell you where to get your medical exam and what documents to bring.

Once you have completed your medical exam, you must submit the results to IRCC within 30 days. You can submit your medical results online or by mail.
