In the Alberta Express Entry stream draw held on March 9, a total of 134 Express Entry candidates received Notifications of Interest (NoIs) from Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) to apply for provincial nomination. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the selected candidates was 301. This is the lowest CRS score requirement in any Alberta Express Entry Stream draw held after October 26, 2021. Last year, the nomination allocation for Alberta was 9750. This year, the province has issued 1292 nominations so far. Alberta expects that it could welcome 67 percent more immigrants by 2025. Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith recently wrote on her LinkedIn page that the province had a huge demand for skilled workers. According to her, there are more than 100000 job vacancies in Alberta at present.
Alberta Express Entry stream
The Alberta Express Entry stream allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool. To be considered, a candidate must have indicated their preference to settle in Alberta in their Express Entry profile. Further, they must have a CRS score of at least 300. They must also have work experience in an occupation that supports the economic development and diversification priorities of Alberta. Family ties to the province of Alberta are also an added advantage.
Once the candidate receives an NoI, they should submit the complete application within the given deadline. If selected, they will receive a provincial nomination from Alberta and an additional 600 CRS score points. So, if the candidate’s basic CRS score is 301, their total CRS score would be 901. This guarantees them an Invitation to Apply(ITA) for permanent in the federal Express Entry draw.
Out of the six federal Express Entry draws held so far by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC), three exclusively targeted PNP candidates. The minimum CRS score required in these draws was between 700 and 800. It means a candidate nominated through the Alberta Express Entry stream has every chance of obtaining an ITA in a federal Express Entry draw.
