In the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) draw held on March 2, the province invited Express Entry candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 301. A total of 200 candidates belonging to the Express Entry stream of AINP received invitations in the draw. The candidates who have received invitations in the draw may now submit the complete application for provincial nomination from Alberta to the AINP.
Canada Express Entry
Express Entry is one of the fastest and simplest pathways to migrate to Canada. It aims to speed up the migration process of foreign skilled workers who can contribute towards the growth of the country’s economy with their skills and work experience. The Express Entry manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of Canada, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
To receive an invitation in one of the Canada Express Entry draws that are conducted normally in every two weeks, a candidate must first create an Express Entry profile. Each profile submitted in this manner is assessed and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The maximum score is 1200 and it is awarded to each candidate on the basis of various human capital factors such as age, education, skilled work experience, language ability etc. Those who have the highest scores are invited in the federal Express Entry draws.
The candidates who have received a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total score. For example, if the CRS score of a candidate who have received an invitation in the latest Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program draw is 301, they will have 600 additional score points upon receiving provincial nomination from Alberta. It means their total CRS score would be 901. That guarantees them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw.
The most recent federal Express Entry draw held on March 8 targeted only those who have received a provincial nomination. The minimum CRS score required to receive an invitation in the draw was 739. It simply indicates that those who have received an invitation in the latest Alberta draw, if successfully apply for and obtain a provincial nomination, have every chance to obtain an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
Alberta Express Entry stream
The Express Entry stream of Alberta is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. The stream targets Express Entry candidates who can support the economic development and diversification priorities of the Alberta government.
In 2020, Alberta nominated a total of 4000 candidates for permanent residence in Canada. Though the number of nominations allocated to Canada has not been revealed yet, it is expected that Canada will nominate more number of immigrants for permanent residence in Canada this year.
