In the second consecutive Provincial Nominee Program-specific Express Entry draw that was held within a gap of just nine days, a total of 183 candidates received Invitations to Apply for Permanent Residence in Canada. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score was 682. It means the basic CRS score of the invited candidates was just 82, as PNP candidates receive 600 additional CRS score points. In the previous Express Entry draw held on March 8, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) had invited 671 PNP candidates with a minimum CRS score of 739.z
Tie-break rule was applied in the March 17 Express Entry draw also, and the time stamp given was March 4, 2021 at 16:56:20 UTC. So, only those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles received invitations in the draw.
Two PNP-specific Express Entry draws happening in a row is quite rare. Experts think that this highlights Canada’s commitment to help provinces to have their labour market needs addressed.
With the latest draw, the total number of Express Entry invitations issued by IRCC so far this year has reached 38840. This is three times larger than the number of invitations issued during the same period in 2020. In 2021, Canada will be welcoming a total of 401000 newcomers. Around 60 percent of these immigrants will come to Canada through Express Entry and PNP.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The Express Entry candidates are assessed and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System score out of 1200, based on various human capital factors. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly.
Canada Express Entry system is an easier and faster pathway for skilled worker migration to Canada. The application processing time under this pathway is minimum six months. Further, being a points-based system, it is unbiased and a fair system of selecting immigration candidates.
