In the March 18 Express Entry draw that exclusively targeted Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, Canada issued a total of 5000 invitations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the invited candidates was 449. As in the previous draw, tie-break rule was applied and the time stamp given was February 19, 2021 at 15:59:57 UTC. It means only those candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.
The recurring Canadian Experience Class-specific draws that invite a high number of candidates prove that Canada is continuing to prioritize in-Canada Express Entry candidates. This is because, in the wake of border restrictions and other preventive measures against COVID-19, the CEC candidates need not travel to Canada from another country. According to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), around 77 percent of candidates in the Express Entry pool are eligible under CEC. These draws also prove that, irrespective of the travel restrictions, Canada is committed to meet its annual Express Entry immigration target of more than 1 lakh candidates.
This is the second consecutive CEC-specific Express Entry draw where, the IRCC invited every single CEC candidate from the Express Entry pool. In the previous CEC-specific Express Entry draw held on February 13, a total of 27,332 immigration candidates had received invitations.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of the country, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates are selected in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly based on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Each candidate is awarded a CRS score on the basis of various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language ability etc. Those with the highest scores receive invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
