With the latest draw, the total number of Express Entry candidates invited by Alberta so far this year has reached 6158. Following the restrictions imposed in the wake of COVID-19, Alberta had stopped issuing invitations for a brief period in 2020 and the draws were resumed in January 2021. The annual nomination allocation for Alberta this year is 6250. However, as the province has not issued these many invitations, we can expect more draws before the current year ends.

Alberta Express Entry stream

The Express Entry stream of Alberta is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. It allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. The Express Entry system manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of Canada, which are the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. The Express Entry candidates are assessed on the basis of various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience etc. and awarded a CRS score out of 1200. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the draws that are conducted regularly. The candidates who are nominated by the provinces receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points. It greatly supports their application for permanent residence.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

To be eligible under the Alberta Express Entry stream, a candidate needs to have work experience in an eligible occupation. However, we must note that AINP only provides a list of ineligible occupations. Work experience or education in Canada or a job offer from Alberta increase the candidates’ chances of receiving an invitation from Alberta.
