The Canadian province of Ontario will be issuing a total of 8350 nominations for permanent residence in Canada in 2021. The federal government of Canada has allocated 8350 nominations for permanent residence to Ontario as well as 250 nominations for temporary foreign workers working in occupations classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level C. These are jobs which require high school education or specific job training.
The number of nominations allocated for Ontario is higher compared to that of the previous years. In 2020, Ontario nominated 8054 candidates, despite the border restrictions and other disruptions. In 2019, the number of immigration candidates nominated by Ontario was 7391.
Ontario PNP in 2021
The year 2021 has so far been an eventful one for Ontario PNP. Ontario recently launched an Expression of Interest (EoI) system for immigration programs under the Employer Job Offer category. It allows those who wish to receive an invitation from Ontario through non-Express Entry aligned immigration programs to submit an Expression of Interest any time.
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Ontario is one of the most popular destinations in Canada for new immigrants to settle in. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program(OINP) allows the province to nominate those with the skills to meet the labour market requirements for permanent residence in Canada. There are two types of immigration programs under the OINP, one which allows the candidates to apply from outside Canada, such as the Human Capital Priorities Stream. The other is those which require a job offer or education experience in Ontario. Studies show that most of the PNP immigrants to Ontario get a job in the first year of landing.
Ontario PNP and Express Entry
Some streams of the OINP are aligned to the federal Express Entry system. Under these streams, the province selects eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and invites them to apply for provincial nomination. Those who receive the nomination will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points added to their total score and that guarantees them an invitation to apply for Canada PR in the federal Express Entry draws.
