The Canadian province of Ontario reached its nomination allocation for 2022, by nominating 9750 candidates for permanent residence in Canada. It means, 750 more candidates were invited, as compared to 9000 candidates in 2021. However, the number is still low, as Ontario is the biggest recipient of immigrants through the federal programs of Canada. So the provincial politicians are urging the federal government to increase the nomination allocation for Ontario. The immigration streams under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program(OINP)remained active throughout the year and issued around 20000 Notifications of Interest and Invitations to Apply. The Notifications of Interest are issued through Express Entry-linked streams, while Invitations to Apply are issued through streams under the provincial Expression of Interest system.

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program nominates skilled foreign workers and international graduates with skills that are in demand for permanent residence in Canada. The OINP is operated in partnership with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC). The application process under the OINP has two stages – applying for nomination from the provincial government and applying for permanent residence in Canada with that nomination.
Three immigration categories are there under the OINP, which are the Human Capital category, Employer Job Offer category and Business Immigration category. Each category also has different streams under it.

The Human Capital Category of the OINP targets immigration candidates with the skills, education and work experience to contribute towards the economic progress of Ontario. It has three Express Entry-aligned streams and an international student stream.

- Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream
- Masters Graduate Stream
- PhD Graduate Stream
Employer Job Offer Category
This category is for those candidates who have a full-time independent job offer from an Ontario employer. The streams under the category are:
