University of Toronto has brought down the tuition fees for international PhD students. Starting this fall, the tuition fees of international PhD students will be similar to that of domestic students. By reducing the tuition fees, the University is aiming to save international students from facing higher tuition fees. The University also aims to remove any financial or other barriers that prevent international students from joining the University.
Most of the PhD students at the University of Toronto receive a four to five-year funding package, with which they cover tuition fees and other fees. Currently, international PhD students have to pay a tuition fee of 22,600CAD, while domestic students have to pay only 8500CAD. In 2017-18 academic year, out of 6145 PhD students, 1179 were international students.
Both the current and prospective international PhD students will benefit from this change in fee structure. Though the new structure will be applicable for students in all years of a PhD program, students in doctoral stream master’s program will be excluded.
