In the first Ontario Tech Draw held on July 12, a total of 1623 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of those who were invited in the draw ranged between 439 and 459. Only those who created Express Entry profiles between July 12, 2018, and July 12, 2019 were considered in the draw.
Ontario Tech Draw
The announcement of the launching of Ontario Tech Draw was made by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) in the beginning of this month. Tech Draw aims to meet the demand for skilled workers in the booming tech sector of the province. Some of the major tech hubs in Canada are located in Ontario, namely Toronto, Ottawa and Waterloo. Ontario Tech Draw is held through the Human Capital Priorities Stream of OINP. Candidates are selected from the Express Entry pool on the basis of a number of eligibility criteria.
A job offer is not necessary to qualify for the Tech Draw. However, the candidates need to have minimum one year of continuous paid full-time work experience or equivalent paid part-time work experience in one of the following six targeted occupations.
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
The first step for a candidate to be considered for Tech Draw is to create an Express Entry profile. The candidates who receive provincial nomination through Ontario Tech Draw will receive additional 600 CRS score points, which would ensure an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw. In recent Express Entry draws, the CRS cut-off score ranged between 438 and 470. A minimum CRS score requirement of 439 gives more scope for those Express Entry candidates with lower CRS scores.
