In the Express Entry draw held on August 4, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) invited 512 Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score of 760 to apply for permanent residence. Compared to the previous PNP-only draw, the number of invitations has increased, so is the CRS cut-off score. In the previous draw held on July 21, a total of 462 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 734 had received invitations.
Tie-break rule was applied in the August 4 draw and the time stamp given was March 5, 2021, at 22:38:31 UTC. It means the draw considered only those eligible candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time.
Ever since the start of this year, federal Express Entry draws have been alternately targeting PNP and Canada Experience Class candidates. It means the invitations were mostly sent to candidates who had already been there in Canada, as border restrictions have been in place owing to the pandemic. However, with the country easing border restrictions in the wake of improved pandemic situation, it is expected that Canada will soon resume all-program Express Entry draws.
Canada Express Entry 2021
The IRCC has invited 99316 immigration candidates through Express Entry so far this year. It means Canada is about to meet its annual immigration target for Express Entry set for the year 2021, which is 108500 newcomers. The number of candidates invited through Express Entry so far in 2021 is almost double compared to same period last year.
How Express Entry works
The Express Entry system, introduced in 2015, manages applications for immigration under the three economic immigration programs of Canada, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Besides, almost all Provincial Nominee Programs have at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry system.
In order to receive an Express Entry invitation, one must first create an Express Entry profile. Each profile will be assessed and awarded a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS score is awarded out of 1200, on the basis of various human capital factors such as age, education, skilled work experience, language skills etc. The candidates who have a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points. Those with the highest scores will the invited to apply for provincial nomination, in the draws that are conducted regularly.
