Despite the hurdles caused by the pandemic, August 2021 was an active month for Canada Provincial Nominee Program. More than 3400 invitations were issued by various Provincial Nominee Programs in the month.
Provincial Nominee Programs allow the provinces of Canada to select immigration candidates who can fulfill their unique labour market requirements and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. PNPs also allow provinces and territories to manage the regional settlement of immigrant population within their jurisdiction. The criteria for selecting the candidates vary for each PNP.
Provincial Nominee Programs are an important pathway for Canada immigration. Between the current year and 2023, Canada is planning to welcome more than 80000 new immigrants every year through Provincial Nominee Programs.
Provincial Nominee Programs and Express Entry
Most of the Provincial Nominee Programs have at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates who are nominated by the provinces receive an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points. This guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
In the month of August, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) held two Express Entry draws that exclusively targeted provincial nominees. In the first draw held on August 4, a total of 512 candidates received invitations. The second draw was held on August 18, which invited 463 provincial nominees.
