In the two Provincial Nominee Program draws held by Ontario on February 8, the province invited 828 candidates to apply for provincial nomination. Out of them, 622 were invited through the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream. To be eligible, these candidates had to have an active Express Entry profile and a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging between 463 and 467. Furthermore, they needed to have work experience of at least one year in one of the following six tech occupations:
0213 Computer and information systems managers
2147 Computer engineers
2172 Database analysts and data administrators
2173 Software engineers and designers
2174 Computer programmer and interactive media developers
2175 Web designers and developers
To be eligible under Human Capital Priorities stream of Ontario, the candidates must have necessary level of education, work experience and language proficiency. They must also have proved their eligibility under either the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or the Canadian Experience Class(CEC) under the Express Entry. In this Stream, the candidates will not be able to apply directly. But they are selected by the OINP from the Express Entry pool, and issued a Notification of Interest to apply for provincial nomination.
A total of 206 candidates received their invitations under the French Speaking Skilled Worker (FSSW) stream. The CRS score of the invited candidates ranged between 463 and 467. Further, they were required to have a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of at least 7 in French and 6 in English. They must also have enough funds to settle in Ontario.
The French Speaking Skilled Worker (FSSW) allows foreign workers who have proficiency in both French and English to settle in Ontario. The candidates should have proved their eligibility under either the Federal Skilled Worker Program or Canadian Experience Class. It is not possible for candidates to apply directly under the stream. But they must receive a Notification of Interest from the OINP based on their Express Entry profile.
The candidates who have received the invitations may submit the complete application for provincial nomination within 45 calendar days.
The candidates who successfully apply for and get a provincial nomination from Ontario will have 600 additional points added to their total CRS score. This will guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent federal Express Entry draw.
