Canada’s Immigration Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that a new task force has been created to manage the delays in government services including the processing of immigration applications. The task force that comprises a large group of federal ministers, will seek to identify the major gaps in these services, review service delivery and recommend improvements. The task force will pay special attention to the processing of applications for immigration. It would also identify priority areas where actions are needed. The task force aims to find both long-term and short-term solutions to clear the backlogs as well as to improve the speed and quality of services.
Speaking about the new task force, Trudeau said, “We will continue to do everything we can to improve the delivery of these services in an efficient and timely manner, and this new task force will help guide the work of the government to better meet the changing needs of Canadians and continue to provide them with the high-quality services they need and deserve.”
All-program Express Entry draws to resume
Canada has not conducted an all-program Express Entry draw since December 2020. From September 2021 onwards, only PNP candidates have received invitations. But as the international border restrictions in relation to COVID have been eased, Canada will resume all-program Express Entry draws on July 6. In order to improve the processing standards of applications for immigration, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has decided to hire more staff and to make investments for improving technology.
Canada to welcome a high number immigrants
As restrictions owing to COVID-19 have been eased and Canada is facing a huge labour shortage. Moreoever, the country has decided to welcome a high number of immigrants in the coming years. In the next three years, Canada would be admitting more than 430000 new immigrants each year. A major portion of these new immigrants would be economic immigrants.
