The latest data from Statistics Canada reveals that more workers are landing in jobs, which has increased the employment rate in the country. Employment rose by 104000 in December, which is half a percentage point. This happened as more workers in six of the 10 provinces in the country, such as Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador and Saskatchewan found employment. The month saw more workers getting hired in construction, transportation and warehousing, information, culture and recreation and the professional and technical services sectors.
Employment rate in December was increased by 3.1 per cent or 25000 more in the information, culture and recreation sectors. Compared to last year, the employment in these sectors has increased by 7.2 per cent. 23,000 more jobs were added by professional, scientific and technical services sector. Most of these jobs were gained in Ontario. Other sectors which saw more people gaining employment are accommodation and food services sector, which added 13000 jobs, public administration which added 11000 jobs and other services category which added 10000 jobs.
Most notably, the employment rate among women rose throughout the year 2022, with the employment rate of core-aged women reaching record high, at 81 per cent.
