The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) has launched online application status trackers for four new categories. They are Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), Canadian Exprerience Class(CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP) under the Express Entry, and also Provincial Nominee Programs(PNPs). 
In the coming years, the highest number of immigrants coming to Canada will be economic-class immigrants. Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program are the two most prominent economic immigration pathways for immigrants to obtain Permanent Residence in Canada. In the current year, Canada will be welcoming around 190000 immigrants through these two pathways. In 2025, the number will be 230000.
The introduction of status tracker is expected to give more transparency to the application process, as it will provide them direct access to information regarding their application. By introducing status trackers, the IRCC is also aiming to reduce the wait times for processing applications. According to the IRCC, they will be introducing application status trackers for more immigration categories in the coming months.
Digitising the application process for Canada immigration
The IRCC is planning to make the application process for Canada immigration 100% digital. Between September and October 2022, the IRCC made digital the application process for the following programs:
- Provincial nominee program (non-Express Entry)
- Quebec-selected skilled workers
- Sponsoring a spouse or partner
- Sponsoring a dependent child
- Sponsoring an eligible relative
- Sponsoring an orphaned sibling, niece or nephew, or grandchild
- Adopting a child through the immigration process
- Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
Temporary resident permit holders applying for permanent residence, Atlantic Immigration Program and several Quebec immigration programs such as
- Quebec-selected investors
- Quebec-selected entrepreneurs
- Self-employed people (Quebec)
are already digital.
Also the process for applying for Canada citizenship is digital. Those above the age of 18 can apply for Canada citizenship digitally, even if they are applying as a couple or as a family of adults. But minors under 18 must apply on paper, and so is a family with children below the age of 18. In such cases, the entire family must submit their application for Canada immigration on paper.
