Canada Parents and Grandparents Program 2025
The Government of Canada has confirmed that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin issuing invitations to apply under the Canada Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) on July 28, 2025. This year, the department is planning to accept up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications.
Over a two-week period, IRCC will send out invitations to individuals who previously submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but have not yet received an invitation.
Prospective sponsors are advised to check the email account they used in 2020, including their junk and spam folders, to make sure that they don’t miss an invitation.
Due to the remaining number of unprocessed interest to sponsor submissions from 2020, IRCC will not open a new interest form this year. Instead, invitations will continue to be drawn from the existing 2020 pool.
Applicants invited as part of the Canada PGP 2025 intake will be able to submit their applications electronically via the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
For those who do not receive an invitation this year, the Canada Super Visa remains a viable alternative. The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, allowing parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with the option to extend their stay by an additional 2 years without leaving the country.
