Canada remains favourite immigration destination despite pandemic

despite pandemic

A new survey has found that prospective immigration candidates have not lost interest in Canada as a result of the obstructions caused by the pandemic. But, on the contrary, their desire to move to Canada remains as strong as ever. The survey, conducted by World Education Services(WES) Canada, had the participation of more than 13000 prospective immigrants.

WES is an organization that offers Educational Credential Assessments(WES) for immigrating to Canada. In 2020, WES surveyed individuals who had submitted their ECA application for Canada immigration. The study aimed to understand the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Canadian immigration plans. WES repeated the survey in August 2021, to check any changes in responses.

However, the survey found that the interest in respondents towards Canada immigration remained the same. Almost 52 per cent said the pandemic will have no impact on their immigration plans. Close to 93 per cent said the pandemic would either have no impact on their immigration plans or make them more interested.

While in 2020, 45 per cent of the respondents felt that the pandemic would impact job availability in Canada, in 2021, the percentage dropped to 33. At the same time, the percentage of those who felt that the pandemic would have a positive impact on job availability increased from 27 per cent in 2020 to 35 per cent in 2021.

Around 58 per cent said they were more interested in immigrating to Canada owing to the ability of the Canadian government and healthcare system in efficiently managing the pandemic situation.

At the same time, around 21 per cent in 2021 said the pandemic would delay their Canadian immigration plans, compared to 35 per cent in 2020. The major reasons cited by them were travel restrictions, delay in immigration application processing times and decrease in jobs in their field in Canada.

However, we can see that, Canada has lifted most of the travel restrictions and the immigration authorities are taking serious steps to reduce the backlogs. Further, the Canadian economy improved significantly in 2021 and currently, Canada has the highest job vacancy rate of nearly 1 million.

As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada, the country will be welcoming 411000 new immigrants in 2022 and almost 60 percent of them will be welcomed through economic immigration programs.
