The Immigration Department of Canada processed a record number of immigration applications in the first quarter of the year 2022, which allowed the country to welcome 108000 new permanent residents during this time period. Announcing this achievement, Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said, “While navigating unprecedented challenges in Canada’s immigration system, we have kept client experience as our focus, leading to record levels of newcomers in Canada.” He reiterated that the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) considered helping clients come to Canada quickly, with predictable processing times and efficient communication a top priority. “Canada is proud to be a destination of choice for so many people around the world, and we will continue to work hard to provide the best experience possible for them.”
147000 Canada immigration applications processed
In the first quarter of 2022, IRCC exceeded its goal of making final decisions on 147000 permanent resident applications. This is double the number of total applications processed during the same period last year. This incredible increase in the processing rate of immigration applications was the reason why Canada could admit a high number of newcomers during the first three months of the current year.
Immigration a priority for Canada
In a statement issued the other day, the IRCC said that they were continuing their work to digitize and modernize the Canada immigration system so that the country remained the favourite destination for people all over the world. According to Canada Economic and Fiscal Update 2021, the country has set aside $85 million to bring down the backlog of applications for immigration to Canada. The fund will be spent for hiring more staff and cutting down the processing times for applications. In February 2022, the IRCC also launched a digital case status tracker that allowed the applicants to view the status of their applications real time online. Currently, the tool gives information only on applications under the spousal, partner and dependent child categories.
