The first Express Entry draw of 2021, held on January 6, invited 250 candidates who have provincial nominations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 813. As the candidates with provincial nominations receive 600 additional CRS score points, the minimum basic CRS score of the candidates invited in the draw is 213.
Just like the previous draws, a tie-breaking rule was applied in the January 6 draw too. Only those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before November 2, 2020 at 11:11:52 received the invitations.
Despite the impact of coronavirus pandemic, 2020 was a record-breaking year for Express Entry. A total of 108,350 Express Entry candidates received invitations to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the year. 2021 is expected to be an even bigger year for Express Entry, as Canada has raised the immigration targets since the country could not meet its immigration targets for 2020, owing to Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, Canada will be welcoming 401,000 new immigration candidates. Of them, 108,500 would be Express Entry candidates. Over the next three years, the target will gradually rise to 110,500 in 2020 and 113750 in 2023.
