The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held an Express Entry draw on August 5, exclusively for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. Following the current trend in Express Entry draws, this draw was held a day after a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-specific draw was conducted. The latest CEC-specific Express Entry invited 3000 candidates to apply for permanent residence and the minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score was 404. The minimum CRS score requirement in the previous CEC-specific draw held on July 22nd was 357, which is the second lowest CRS cut-off score in any CEC-specific draw. A tie-break rule was applied and the time stamp given was August 3rd, 2021 at 05:39:26 UTC. It means only those candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.
Ever since the start of the year 2021, Express Entry draws have been alternating between PNP-specific draws and CEC-specific draws. So, most of the invitations went to candidates who were already residing in the country or who were connected to Canada in some way. This trend was adopted in the wake of border restrictions imposed during the pandemic, which restricted entry of international travellers to the country. However, with Canada rolling back the border restrictions, it is expected that an all-program draw would soon be held.
In 2021, Canada is planning to welcome 108500 newcomers through Express Entry. So far, 102316 Express Entry candidates have received invitations.
Canada Express Entry
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Besides, almost all PNPs have at least one stream or category aligned to the Express Entry.
The first step for a candidate to receive an Express Entry invitation is to create an Express Entry profile. Each Express Entry profile will be assessed on the basis of various eligibility factors and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System score out of 1200. The candidates who have a provincial nomination will be awarded 600 additional CRS points. Those with the highest scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the regularly conducted federal Express Entry draws.
