In the Express Entry draw held on May 25, Canada invited 589 Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for the candidates to be invited in the draw was 741. It means the candidates who had a minimum base CRS score of 141 have received invitations, as they have already obtained 600 additional CRS score points through provincial nomination. In the previous Express Entry draw held on May 11, a total of 545 PNP candidates with a minimum CRS score of 753 had received invitations.
Express Entry draws for FSWP, CEC candidates to resume in July
Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has informed that the Express Entry invitations for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class(CEC) candidates would resume by early July. The minister has also informed that the processing of Express Entry applications would also be returned to the service standard of six months soon.
Before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, most of the Express Entry draws were all-program draws. But border restrictions and other public health restrictions which had to be imposed in Canada owing to the pandemic led the immigration authorities to limit Express Entry draws to PNP candidates. Express Entry stopped inviting FSWP candidates December 2020 and CEC candidates in September 2021. A huge backlog of immigration applications is another reason why Express Entry draws stopped targeting FSWP and CEC candidates.
However, Canada is keen about bringing more skilled immigrants to the country. In the first quarter of 2022, Canada processed PR applications of around 156000 candidates. This is double compared to the same period in the previous year.
Although the number of immigrants to be admitted through Express Entry has been reduced for the years 2022 and 2023, in 2024, Canada will be admitting more than 110000 permanent residents through Express Entry.
